Why Dan saw the need for a man with a van
At the age of 63, a family friend of Dan’s suffered a life altering stroke in May 2016.
My good friend Paul was immediately confined to a wheelchair and was placed in a nursing home as his needs were high care. Dan Paynter, Able Adventures founder
Although Paul was physically disabled, mentally he was fine and with the help of the NDIS was given a package that allowed for him to access community, leisure and recreational activities .
Paul needed both support and transport!
Although support workers were easy to come by, Paul required a large and physically able person to ensure that he was safe at all times. Paul loved attending the Speedway events at Archerfield as well as regular football fixtures at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
The challenge that inspired Able Adventures
Getting Paul out and about was hard to achieve. Why?
- It was hard to find a disability transport option that wasn’t a local taxi.
- It was hard to find a support worker whenever Paul wanted.
- It was hard to find a support worker that was large and physically able person to work with Paul, who was a bigger man.
- Even if we did find all of the above, it was still hard for Paul to go for an outing that was within a reasonable price range.
Able Adventures was born
I wanted to support people like Paul connect and engage with their community and continue to do the things that they love without any stress in a safe and inclusive environment.
Together we make this possible through pairing our individual support services with a fully accessible wheelchair-friendly transportation solution. Dan Paynter, Able Adventures founder
